This castle town in Kitsuki leaves a taste of Edo period, and is well known as tourist attraction till today.



Many historians say Kitsuki is the best one designed as sandwich style castle town in early 18th century.

The castle was on the top of hill and samurai residence area was arranged on the north & south uphills、merchant residence area was arranged on the valley between the north & south samurai residence area .

This castle town has some famous stone paved slopes, one of which is named the “slope of vinegar shop”. Samurai group went uphill and downhill to the castle by taking palanquins (Kago) or horses on the stone paved slopes.

You can enjoy a taste of Edo castle town and a touch of Edo period.
