If you want to stretch your body out, or breathe fresh air, I’d suggest Mt. Tachibana (367m). You can easily go by yourself, just like taking a walk. There are three more hills, named Shiratake(314m), Matsuozan (337m), Mikatsukiyama(272m).

The route is from
1) Fukuoka Higashi-ku, Shimobaru. (JR Kashii Station, bus stop Shimobaru)
2) Kasuya-gun, Shingu, Tachibanaguchi town.

The trail leads to the summit of Mt. Tachibana, which is a 40-50 minute walk from either entrance point. The western summit has an open, flat space, overlooking Hakata Bay and, Fukuoka with beautiful views across the Genkai Strait past Uminonakamichi.

The forest is primeval and is famous of thousands of camphor trees; over 600 trees are taller than 30m high.

Tachibana castle was built by Otomo of Bungo Sadatoshi in 1330 at the end of the Kamakura period. The Mt.Tachibana fortress overlooking Hakata was important before Fukuoka Castle was built in 1601.
